What you will be able to play

• Play complete licks in C, G, A and D major and resolve them to the root.
• Play Mixolydian licks over dominant 7 and 9 chords, using passing tones and major-3rd hammer-ons.
• Play natural minor licks in E, B and D and find each one's relative major.
• Bring out the Dorian sound by adding the major 6th to the minor pentatonic.
• Choose Dorian or Aeolian by ear, starting from the minor pentatonic.

Knowing how a mode comes from the major scale helps, but the licks can also simply be learned by ear and hand.
