Hendrix Master Class
Hendrix-style rhythm and lead over five jam tracks: thumb-over chord embellishments, double stops, octaves, unison bends and pentatonic licks all over the neck.
What you will be able to play
- Play a B minor, A, G groove with E-shape split chords, octaves and double-stop embellishments.
- Play each chord of a major-key progression as an E, A and D shape and fret bass notes with the thumb.
- Bend unison, reverse and step-and-a-half bends in tune and use them in a solo over a groove.
- Target the root, third or fifth of each chord with single notes, unison bends and two-string arpeggios.
- Move licks through all five minor pentatonic positions and into the octave above.
- Hold down a loose trio rhythm in A minor with thumb bass, muted strums and double stops.
- Keep a swung rhythm part steady and drop in and out of lead lines without losing the beat.
- Clean up a fuzz tone with the guitar volume knob and switch between clean and dirty mid-phrase.
Is it for you?
Intermediate electric players who know minor pentatonic position one, E- and A-shape barre chords and octave shapes, and can bend a string roughly in tune, and who want the rhythm-and-lead style of late-1960s rock and R&B rather than more scale drills. Advanced players will still find plenty of work in the trio rhythm parts, the swung track and the fast runs. Not for beginners: many riffs are shown rather than spelled out, the lick numbers follow a tab that is not part of the lessons, and you need to be comfortable learning by watching the fretting hand.
