Crème de la Crème Blues
Electric blues from the 12-bar and the A minor pentatonic to BB-box bends, major and minor mixing, turnarounds and dominant-chord devices.
What you will be able to play
- Play a 12-bar blues in E with E5, A5 and B5, the shuffle walking pattern and a turnaround.
- Solo in the A minor pentatonic by connecting licks with scale runs and finding every A root on the neck.
- Bend a half step, a whole step and a minor third in tune with three fingers supporting the bend.
- Improvise in the BB box, switching between major pentatonic on the I chord and minor pentatonic on the IV.
- Play open-position and rock-blues turnarounds in E and A, including E13 and E7#9#5.
- Use a double-stop device and a dominant 7 arpeggio to target the chord tones of D7, G7 and C7.
- Add the major third and major sixth to your blues box over a B7 groove.
- Play high triads and double stops over C7, E7 and A7 in blues rhythm and fills.
Is it for you?
Electric players who know a handful of open chords, can play an E-shaped barre chord and want to sound like a blues player rather than a scale runner. The first module brings in players who are new to soloing and the 12-bar, so you only need the main A minor pentatonic shape or the optional first-scale lesson. The later modules suit intermediate players stuck in one box. Not for complete beginners who cannot yet change between open chords, and not a song course: it teaches devices, licks and grooves, not full songs.
